Temporary adjustment of Prismatic compass

 The adjustments or Settings required to be performed before taking the reading or observation is called as temporary adjustments.

The temporary adjustments of prismatic compass are

1. Fixing the Prismatic Compass on Tripod stand

2. Centering: The process of fixing the instrument over a station is called as centering.

There are two methods of centering

       1. By Dropping a pebble

       2. By using a plumb bob.

3. Levelling: Levelling is done with the help of Ball and socket arrangement so that the graduated ring rotates freely without touching either bottom of the box or glass cover on top.

4. Adjustment of Prism: for getting clear reading.

5. Observation of bearing: After bisecting the station, The bearing is recorded.
